15 Colorful Winter Coats on Sale
By Franki Hanke
January is a month of gray (or brown) depending on where you live. As January sales start discounting essential women’s winter coats on sale, I’m looking for colorful coats that can brighten my mood through the rest of this season.
Does color matter?
If you’re looking at the science, it’s not conclusive, because we just don’t have research on the specific question of “Does the color of the clothing we wear make us happier?”
However, some data supports the impact of colors more generally.
Want to be attractive? Wear red.
One study found that color changes perceived attractiveness, even when the actual color was obscured from the judges. So the impact of wearing the color made the wearer appear more attractive separate from the perception of the color itself. That’s a confidence boost in action!
Need some creativity? Wear green.
Viewing the color green enhanced creative performance in four experiments. Other experiments linked it with relaxation and comfort (likely due to the reminder of nature).
Really though, wear your favorite color!
Ultimately, the data on colors’ impact is limited, so opt for the colors that make you feel your best. Practicing some dopamine dressing can add energy to a month that’s often dull.
15 Women’s Winter Coats on Sale
When it comes time to find that colorful coat, there’s the challenge! Women’s winter coats, especially plus-size women’s coats, often default to the standard black, navy blue, and maybe olive green. Instead, I’m hunting for elusive coats & jackets in color!
Depending on whether you’re braving a New York winter or a Florida one, you’ll need a different kind of jacket! Jump to the right level with the links below.

When buying a coat, keep styling in mind. If you often wear heavy cardigans, puffer vests, or sweatshirts, you may want to size up your outerwear. If you’re sticking with leggings and a thin base layer underneath, opt for a close fit for proper insulation.
Prices in this article were updated at the time of publishing. Items may sell out quickly and exclusions may apply to sales mentioned. I hope this helped you find a women’s winter coat on sale for the rest of this year’s winter season (or to save on next year’s new coat).
Once you find a coat you love, the winter blues won’t feel so bad, especially if the right insulation makes it easier to get outside and catch the sun that does appear. Getting outside is one way to be a bit happier.
